Styles in TSL

In The Scarlet letter Hawthorne uses many different figurative. If i explain every piece of figurative language I would be writing for days. But some of them are really strong and literal in his novel. One of the pieces he uses are “…an object to remind him of the image of Divine Maternity… that sacred image of sinless motherhood, whose infant was to redeem the world.” The way he uses imagery in this quote gives the area of this text more style and flavor. He inserts it in at the right time to insure that his text stays on the level of mastery he tries to betray.

As he uses imagery to show his true feelings, he also uses similes to make key comparisons to elaborate on some of his reasonings. “A writhing horror twisted itself across his features, like a snake gliding swiftly over them, and making one little pause, with all its wreathed intervolutions in open sight.” says Hawthorn. With this quote he gives the reader a comparison to prove the point he is trying to reveal.
